Safeguarding Children

Safeguarding Children at ‘The Cathedral School of St Mary’

Our school community has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children who are our pupils. This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and Procedure in place which we refer to in our prospectus. All staff including volunteers and supply staff must ensure that they are aware of our procedures.

Parents and carers are welcome to read these on request.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will endeavour to ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with their parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that this is not in the child’s best interests.

We are part of Operation Encompass – this is a Plymouth based project that enables young people who are present during incidents of domestic abuse to receive the support they need. If one of our pupils is present during a domestic incident at home, the police will inform the Designated Safeguarding  Lead within our school before the start of the next day. This enables us to support your child if needed.

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads are:

Mr Mark Dyson and Mrs Williams

Our Safeguarding Governor is:

Mrs Lesley Burden
